OCD TREATMENT

Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) manifests as recurring rituals and thoughts through which the OCD individual hopes to manage fear and anxiety. Frequent handwashing, the need for everything to be ‘just right,’ and even the recurrence of specific thoughts are all manifestations of OCD. Developmental trauma is often part of the etiology of OCD, making trauma-focused therapy an especially useful modality through which to treat this disorder. In addition, OCD can be part of the fabric of relational and family concerns; for example, if your partner or child has OCD, it’s important for your therapist to understand how this disorder can influence relational dynamics. OCD can also emerge from unresolved and unprocessed memories of the kind that are addressed in EMDR therapy. Finally, in addition to pursuing therapy, OCD sufferers can obtain some relief through neurofeedback.
